Kolkata: Ten youths were arrested for allegedly molesting and stalking a girl in a Metro on Tuesday. According to the victim, while she getting harassed, none of her co-passengers except a senior citizen offered her help.Sources informed that the girl is a fashion designer by profession and stays in Hoogly. She was going to Garia for work. At around 4 pm, she boarded a south-bound Metro from Esplanade. The accused youths also boarded the same Metro from there. All of them were inside the first compartment. When she protested, all ten of them surrounded her.In the meantime, a person aged more than 60 years left his seat for the girl.”The aged man told me not to argue with the youths and let me sit in his place. But that did not stop the youths from passing lewd comments. To avoid them, I decided to get down at Tollygunge. When I was about to get off the Metro, those youths grabbed my shopping bags and tried stop me from deboarding. I somehow managed to get off,” said the victim girl. When she asked for help, a lady Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel came forward.Sensing danger, the youths tried to flee but the lady officer gathered moreRPF personnel.Immediately, all of them were taken to the station master’s room where the girl narrated the whole thing. Following which she was asked to give a written statement. Later, Regent Park Police Station was informed.Officers from Regent Park Police Station took all of them to police station and the girl submitted a written complaint. Later all of them were arrested. The accused youth are from Baruipur area.”I was saved by the RPF and Metro personnel. Thanks to them for helping me,” said the girl.
Kolkata: A beheaded body of a woman was found at nayapara in Kultali on Monday morning. Some locals found the body beside a paddy field and informed police. Later, they recovered the body and sent it for an autopsy.Locals sources informed that the body could not be identified as the head was missing. Police have also enquired whether there was any missing complaint filed in the last few days from the adjacent areas. The sleuths suspect that the woman has been murdered somewhere else. The woman was married, police confirmed. The murderers cut off the head to keep the identity hidden. The investigators are also suspecting that the woman may have been sexually harassed. However, they are waiting for the autopsy report to proceed. An all concerned message with the body’s description has been sent to the adjacent police units as well.
Kolkata: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) said on Friday that he is unaware of BJP national president Amit Shah’s statement, where he specified the time of counting the votes and announced Trinamool Congress’ landslide defeat by 2 pm after the counting gets over.Shah had said in a public meeting held at Contai in East Midnapore on Wednesday that the counting of votes will start at 9 am and by 2 pm, when the counting gets over, Trinamool will face a landslide defeat. Kolkata: A person has been arrested for allegedly threatening and abusing a Bengali actress on social media, a senior police officer said Monday.Acting on the complaint lodged by Arunima Ghosh, police arrested Mukesh Shaw, a resident of Garfa area in south Kolkata, late Sunday night, the officer said.”The accused has been posting illicit comments, threats and abuses on a social networking account of the actress since May 30,” he said.The accused had opened a fake account in the name of Mukesh Mayukh, the officer said.”We are trying to find out why he did all these. We are also checking whether he is mentally stable or not,” the investigating officer said.Ghosh said,”Initially, I was ignoring this. Then I found that he was keeping an eye on each and everything I was doing and wherever I was going. Then I contacted the Kolkata Police.”
