The one day event will bring shoppers into 17 local stores from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. on December 12. The first 140 shoppers at the event will receive special wine glasses featuring the moonlight shopping logo. In addition, when you spend 10 dollars, you’ll be entered into a raffle for prizes at the end of the night. For Crews, one of the best parts about shopping local, is the benefit it has on the community. While some local shops are set to permanently close, this event is looking to keep local businesses alive. “It’s not just walking and shopping, it’s walking in and visiting local merchants and their shops, having a little sip of tea or whatever they’re serving that night,” said Crews. “Owego is very much alive, very vital, our shop keepers are very motivated and our downtown is really the place to be for this holiday shopping. This year alone we’ve had three or four businesses opening up,” said Crews. “When you shop small, and we’ve heard it a lot, all of that money is going straight back to the community. All of the shopkeepers, they have families, they help donate money to local teens, they donate money and their time to community events,” said Crews. “You’re going to get a gift here that you’re not going to find anywhere else. We’re going to have a little fun along the way while we do it,” said Bradley Crews, president of the Historical Owego Marketplace. OWEGO (WBNG) — While stores in other areas are just closing their doors, once the sun goes down, Owego is just getting started with it’s moonlight shopping. If you’re looking for that special gift, Owego might just be the place. For more information on events and where to shop, you can check out their website.
