For Crews, one of the best parts about shopping local, is the benefit it has on the community. While some local shops are set to permanently close, this event is looking to keep local businesses alive. “It’s not just walking and shopping, it’s walking in and visiting local merchants and their shops, having a little sip of tea or whatever they’re serving that night,” said Crews. “Owego is very much alive, very vital, our shop keepers are very motivated and our downtown is really the place to be for this holiday shopping. This year alone we’ve had three or four businesses opening up,” said Crews. center_img “When you shop small, and we’ve heard it a lot, all of that money is going straight back to the community. We’re going to have a little fun along the way while we do it,” said Bradley Crews, president of the Historical Owego Marketplace.
